We are the Ancestors
by Aileen McPherson
My life, mind, body, and soul are at one with
The Great Spirit an all creatures great and small,
In this world and the next.
Born up in tears, life has now begun,
Living hard and strong everyday,
Lay my life down by still waters,
Death comes quietly on silvered wings
Against the moon, I sleep now held in
The arms of the Great Spirit, unafraid.
Let yourself become one with
The natural world, we all come from
The Earth, Stars, and belong to the Great Spirit,
We are the Ancestors.
Help thy self and thy neighbor as if
They were thy own family, everyone is responsible
For thine own actions be they good or ill.
